Lifting the public system from within.
The Government Primary Schools (GPS) programme supports public primary schools in Somaliland to improve foundational literacy and numeracy.
Rather than build parallel provision, GPS strengthens the schools families already attend, working with the Ministry of Education to coach teachers, supply learning materials and track progress through endline assessments, reaching far more children per dollar than a new school could. The programme also provides certification for teachers and principals through a partnership with the University of Hargeisa, extending their professional development and enabling better teaching and leadership outcomes.
